Weekend Guide to Art Basel Events
December 2, 2016The World-famous Art Basel Miami Beach spectacle is filled with thousands of international visitors, celebs, collectors, curators and critics all flocking to the dozens of galleries, tents and showcases of installations from some of the most eclectic artist from around the globe. There are so many installations, you can’t see it all and though there are a number of guides available for interested visitors to attend, we’ve compiled a small checklist to steer you in the direction of the most talked about installations and showcases for the remainder of the week.
Though many of the featured events occur on Miami Beach at the Miami Beach Convention Center many satellite events are being held throughout the city. To navigate some of the best installations and exhibitions the art festival has to offer, check out our list of the most talked about events and places to see and be seen this weekend:
Miami Beach Convention Center (1901 Convention Center Dr, Miami Beach) The Motherland of art featuring
Soundscape Park (400 17th St., Miami Beach): Best Dressed Chicken In Town, a selection of short films by artists who engage with music.
Collins Park (2111 Collins Ave, Miami Beach): Ground Control inspired by David Bowie. 20 Installations will explore how artists invent and image new kinds of space.
Design Miami (Meridian Ave and 19th St, Miami Beach): A swanky fair that showcases the best of contemporary design and architecture including furniture, jewelry, cars and much more. NYC based Shop Architects will display, Flotsam and Jetsam and break Guinness World Record with its 1,781 SF 3D printed structure.
Satellite Art Show (Parisian Hotel, 1510 Collins Ave, Miami Beach): 3000 Gallons of milk poured as a reaction to the excess of Art Basel! This is where the quirky art actions happens featuring music, art, music performance, new media and technology.
Untitled (Ocean Drive and 12th St, Miami Beach) Sit on super oversized chairs designed by artist.
Wynwood/Midtown Miami (Along NE 2nd Ave, Miami) Spectrum, Red Dot, Context Art and Art Miami merge in this artsy neighborhood providing a mix of performances, art talks, established studio artists works. Art Miami will have its 27th edition featuring major contemporary and modern art works by the industry titans including Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Willem de Kooning.
