The Renaissance of Coconut Grove

Coconut Grove was first settled back in the mid-1880s by Edmund and Ann Beasley at the site of present day’s Barnacle State Park. The Grove, as locals affectionately call it, was at one point in time, the hippest spot to be in Miami. However, as the years went by Coconut Grove began to decline and shuttered storefronts began to appear. Nonetheless, the Grove was still a place loved by locals. For that reason, Coconut Grove is now experiencing a renaissance. A wave of construction, and renovation, can be seen sweeping across the neighborhood. Coconut Grove Parks & Public Spaces

Regatta Park, a brand new seven-acre park with lush lawns is located at the site of the demolished Coconut Grove Convention Center. People can picnic, rest, or exercise here while watching boats in the marina. David T. Kennedy Park, which is famous for being the home of A.C.’s Icee’s truck and fabulous walking trails, is currently being renovated. The renovation started with the mangrove areas in the middle of the park and along the shoreline, and continued to the construction of the new bathroom facilities. Peacock Park will also be seeing a great deal of change, as a planned restaurant by the Chef of Coral Gables’Eat House will open up in half of the Glass House, which was once Coconut Grove’s gathering spot. A brand new community center will be located in the other half of the Glass House.

Southwest 27th Avenue, Coconut Grove’s principal entrance is undergoing a reconstruction that will add trees, bike lanes, and sidewalks. The old narrow and buckling sidewalks on Main Highway will be rebuilt and expanded at the intersection of Grand Avenue and McFarlane Road. Trees have been planted on the newly rebuilt and widened sidewalks on Commodore Plaza. The Historic Coconut Grove Playhouse, which was shut down over 8 years ago, is scheduled to be expanded, revamped, and reconstructed.

Real Estate & Planned Development

A huge project that is under way is the Park Grove community. This project was designed by a world-class team of architects, developers, and designers. This development features two twisting glass towers, which feature panoramic views of Biscayne Bay and the Miami skyline. This development was designed by Bjarke Ingels, one of the world’s most dramatic architects. Each tower has 98 spacious, custom units that feature floor-to-ceiling glass, 12-foot-deep terraces, and 12-foot-high ceilings.
